Margot Bos, soprano

Originally trained as a mezzo-soprano, Margot Bos has recently made the transition to soprano. Her debut as a soprano came in December of 1996 as soprano soloist with the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra for Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Ms. Bos has performed leading mezzo roles in such operas as The Magic Flute, Albert Herring, Die Fledermaus, Così fan Tutte, Rigoletto, Orfeo et Euridice and Falstaff with the Oberlin Opera Theater, the Indiana University Opera Theater, Rome (Italy) Festival Orchestra and in opera scenes as an apprentice with the Santa Fe Opera Company. As a soloist in oratorio, Ms. Bos has been heard in Bach's St. Matthew and John Passions, Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, Mozart's Requiem, Vivaldi's Gloria, Schubert'sMass in A Flat, Handel's Messiah, and Stravinsky's Mass.

Margot Bos has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Cathedral Orchestra (Cleveland), and the Rome Festival Orchestra; and under conductors Franz Allers, Robert Baustian, George Monahan, John Crosby, Robert Spano, Joseph Flummerfelt, Randall Fleischer, and Michel Singer. Solo performances by Ms.Bos have been heard on WCLV, Cleveland and nationally on the Music from Oberlin series. As a member of the Philadelphia-based singing troupe Singers a la Mode, Ms. Bos has performed on numerous programs of opera and musical theater in the Philadelphia area.

Currently, Ms. Bos is a student of Susan Dash (Philadelphia, PA) and lives in Baltimore, MD. Other teachers include Margaret Harshaw, Daune Mahy, and Marilin Niska. In 1999, she will be performing recitals throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania and will make her Washington, DC recital debut in the 1999-00 season at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theatre on a recital program with her husband, saxophonist David Stambler.
