Eric Conway is Director of the Morgan State University Choir as well as Chairperson of the University’s Fine Arts Department. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the Peabody Conservatory, where he majored in piano performance and minored in conducting. While at Peabody, Dr. Conway received a prestigious Liberace Scholarship. As a winner of the Yale Gordon Concerto Competition, he earned the honor of playing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra.
The U.S. Information Agency sent Dr. Conway on a tour of eastern Africa, highlighted by a solo performance for Madagascan television and radio. In addition to 1990 and 1997 performances with the Hopkins Symphony, he has appeared as soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Baltimore Concert Artists, Georgetown University Orchestra, and Millbrook Orchestra in Shepherdstown, WV. A 2006 performance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 with the Baltimore Symphony brought him wide acclaim. As an orchestral pianist for the Baltimore Symphony, he toured with the orchestra to eastern Asia in 1994 and 1997. A sought-after collaborative musician, he has worked with such leading artists as Trevor Wye, Hillary Hahn, Daniel Heifetz, William Brown, and Janice Chandler.
In the choral realm, Dr. Conway worked closely with some of the greatest conductors of the 20th Century, including Robert Shaw, Sir Neville Mariner, and Donald Neuen. In 2001, Dr. Conway served as chorusmaster for the Baltimore Symphony Chorus’ performance of the Verdi Requiem; in 2006, he was chorusmaster for the performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 that ended the tenure of Music Director Yuri Temirkanov. Dr. Conway travels the Mid-Atlantic region giving choral master classes and workshops at the high school and college levels.
In addition to his musical accomplishments, Dr. Conway holds degrees in both accounting and business management, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Dr. Conway is married to Bessie Elizabeth Conway, and they are blessed to have three sons, Eric, Jr.; Christopher; and Ryan.
