Steve Haaser, flute

Steven Haaser is entering his sixth season as the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra's Principal Flute. He was born in South Bend, Indiana, and was educated at the University of Notre Dame and Brown University earning degrees in Mathematics and Physical Chemistry. His inspirational primary flute teacher was George Opperman of South Bend. He has also studied with Dr. Heinz-Peter Hellberger at the Innsbruck Conservatory and Donald Peck of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Previously, Mr. Haaser was a member of the South Bend Bymphony Orchestra for five seasons, and has appeared as soloist with the Michiana Symphonette and Notre Dame Orchestra. While in Austria, he played with the Universität Innsbruck Collegium Musicum. He has performed in numerous recitals and chamber music programs. Since moving to Maryland, he has also played with the UMBC Symphony for six years.

Mr. Haaser follows his grandfather and father as flautists. He and his wife Mary, an oboist, play for musical shows whenever they can, and enjoy inviting friends to come for an evening of informal dining and playing music.
