The Johns Hopkins Choral Society

The Johns Hopkins Choral Society, founded in 1904, is one of the oldest student groups still active on campus. The Chorus is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Under the direction of Mark Hardy, the Choral Society has recently performed Mozart’s Requiem, Rachmaninoff’s Vespers, and Benjamin Britten’s St. Nicolas, and has recorded Mark Hardy’s Requiem with the Baltimore Masterworks Chorale and the Hopkins Symphony.

Mark Hardy is Music Director of the Johns Hopkins Choral Society. A native of Boston, Dr. Hardy holds a B.M. in composition from the University of Lowell, and masters and doctoral degrees in choral conducting from Indiana University. Since arriving in Baltimore in 1999, he has been Director of Vocal Music at the Baltimore School for the Arts. Dr. Hardy has prepared choruses for performance with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Annapolis Opera, and Baltimore Opera, and has appeared as guest conductor with the Hopkins Symphony, Handel Choir of Baltimore, and other ensembles throughout the Baltimore-Washington area. He also remains active as a composer of choral, chamber, and orchestral music.
