David Kirkwood, tenor
Native Texan tenor David Kirkwood is finishing his Doctor of the Musical Arts degree coursework at the Peabody Institute, where he also received his Master of Music in 2006. A student of acclaimed baritone William Sharp, Mr. Kirkwood has been featured in Peabody Opera Theatre as Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw (2007) and Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (2008). Baltimore Sun critic Tim Smith praised his “stylish phrasing” in Baltimore Opera’s 2008 Artscape production of Ravel’s L’Heure Espagnole. Mr. Kirkwood’s upcoming engagements include Gastone in Verdi’s La Traviata with Peabody Opera Theatre in March, and his final DMA solo recital in the late Spring. He lives in Baltimore with his wife, Cordelia Lam Kirkwood (M.M. Piano Performance, Peabody). They are expecting identical twin girls in late April.
