Marya Martin, flute

As a winner of the 1979 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, New Zealand-born flutist Marya Martin made her highly successful debuts in the Young Concert Artist Series at the 92nd Street Y in New York and in Washington, D.C. at the Kennedy Center.

Since then her career has blossomed. Miss Martin has performed duo sonatas with Jean-Pierre Rampal in the "Mostly Mozart" festival at Lincoln Center. At the invitation of flutist James Galway, she appeared as soloist with him on tour with the New Zealand Symphony this spring. She has toured extensively throughout New Zealand both in recital and as soloist with the NZSO and the Auckland Regional Orchestra.

Marya Martin has appeared in the U.S. as soloist with orchestras including the Seattle Symphony, the Idaho Civic Symphony, the Charlotte Symphony, the Greenville Symphony, and the Chamber Orchestra of New England. Miss Martin is also in demand as a chamber music artist, performing often with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As a recipient of the Young Concert Artists' Mortimer Levitt Career Development Award for Women Artists, Miss Martin's solo debut recording has been released by the Musical Heritage Society and Kiwi Pacific Records, Ltd.

Marya Martin studied in Europe with Jean-Pierre Rampal and James Galway, and at Yale University with Thomas Nyfenger.
