Todor Pelev, violin

Todor Pelev, a native of Bulgaria, received his musical training at the Sofia Conservatory with Tatyana Krusteva and Boyan Lechev; at the Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay; and at the Eastman School of Music with Donald Weilerstein.

Mr. Pelev has won many awards and competitions both in the U.S.A. and abroad which include second prize in the Wieniawski International Competition for Young Violinists in Poland, first prize in Bulgaria's Svetoslav Obretenov National Violin Competition, first place in the National Symphony Orchestra's Young Soloists Competition, winner of the Eastman School of Music's Concerto Competition and Performer's Certificate, and winner of the Baltimore Music Club Competition—Professional Division.

Mr. Pelev has appeared as guest soloist with orchestras across Bulgaria and the U.S.A., including the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center. Also among his credits are radio and television broadcasts in the United States, Bulgaria, Poland, and the Soviet Union. He has performed in the Aspen and Tidewater music festivals and will be a soloist-in-residence at the 1987 Mackinac Island Music Festival.

Mr. Pelev performs on the 1734 "ex-Willemotte" Stradivarius violin and the "ex-Baron de Tremont" Tourte violin bow.
