Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, composer

Born in Mexico City in 1964, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez holds degrees in Composition from the Peabody Conservatory and Yale University and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Princeton University. Among his composition teachers are Jean E. Ivey, Jacob Druckman, and Martin Bresnick.

Mr. Sanchez-Gutierrez has received awards and fellowships from the Mexico-U.S. Fund for Culture, Princeton and Yale Universities, the University of Guadalajara, the Fulbright Commission, BMI, the National Council for the Arts and Culture of Mexico, and from the American Music Center. He has recently received commissions from the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, the Cuicani Chamber Orchestra, the National Fund for the Arts and Culture of Mexico, the Mineria Symphony Orchestra, and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.

In addition to writing Concert Music, Mr. Sanchez-Gutierrez has also composed music for film, theater, and multi-media productions, and has worked as a journalist, radio producer, and cartoonist.
