Lois Shapiro, piano

Lois Shapiro, an exceptionally insightful young artist, is a highly sought-after soloist and chamber musician. She has concertized throughout the U.S. and performed in Belgium, Switzerland, Hungary, and Canada, both as soloist and ensemble pianist. She is also the winner of the prestigious Concert Artist's Guild Award. Widely diversified in her repertoire, Ms. Shapiro has premiered new works in such festivals as the Tenth National New Music Festival at Memphis State University and the National Women's Music Festival at Tufts University.

Since her New York debut in 1978, Ms. Shapiro has been continually noted for her probing and communicative performances. She has appeared in a variety of distinguished settings, including the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., Belgian Radio and Television, and The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

A former pupil of Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Institute, Ms. Shapiro is currently on the piano faculty at Wellesley College and the Longy School of Music. Her soon-to-be released recordings include 20th-century Hungarian chamber music on the AFGA label and Schubert and Schumann Lieder with Bethany Beardslee. She has also recorded major keyboard works by Haydn and Ravel.
