Russell Steinberg

Composer Russell Steinberg's music has been performed in the United States and abroad, including concerts in San Francisco, Australia, and New Zealand. Russell holds a Ph.D. in Music from Harvard University where he studied with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Leon Kirchner. His awards include an ASCAP Young Composers Grant, Composer's Inc., NACUSA prizes, MacDowell and Aspen Fellowships, and First Prize in the New World String Quartet Competition. Recent performances include premieres of original works in two solo concerts in Los Angeles, Subterranean Dance by the Digital Renaissance Consort in Los Angeles, and the premiere of Symphony No. 1 ``City Strains'' in New York by the Westchester Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Steinberg is currently director of music at the Stephen S. Wise Schools in Los Angeles, conductor of the Los Angeles Jewish Youth Symphony, and lecturer at UCLA where he teaches popular courses in music listening, including Bach, Handel, and a Perfect Universe and Beethoven's Nine Symphonies. He is also an award-winning author of educational music CD-ROMs: Five-One Production's interactive music appreciation prototype Virtual Concerts, The Voyager Company's Richard Strauss: Three Tone Poems (and the Windows version Microsoft's Multimedia Strauss), a musical environment on Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia called The Madcap Music Store, and Warner New Media's The Orchestra based on Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.
