Astronomy Magazine – June 2009
John Mather, Senior Project Scientist for the James Webb Space
Telescope
Another AstroConfidential photo for Astronomy, in which they
asked for a full-height of John (a tall man!). They also wanted an
interesting background. I scouted out multiple models of the James Webb Space
Telescope (JWST), but they were under glass, which made for horrid reflections.
However the Goddard Visitor Center had two elements already displayed next
to each other:
- a photo of a life-size model of JWST which visited Goddard
in September 2005 with a crowd of people who had worked on JWST.
(Nice photo taken from a crane, I believe. Nothing anywhere near that tall
around from that angle.)
- A full scale replica of one of the honeycomb mirror segments of
the mirror of JWST rests below the photo.
