Beth El Scroll - Stand Up for Racial Justice (July 2020)

In the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, protests rolled across the United States. On June 7, 2020, Beth El Congregation joined with about 7 local churches to hold a "Stand Up for Racial Justice" protest along Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda. People held signs and many cars driving by honked their horns in solidarity. Perhaps 300+ people participated in the protests. People are masked and practicing 'social distancing' because this occurred during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

One of my photos of the event, a wide view to partially show the sweep of protesters was used on the cover of the July/August edition of The Scroll synagogue newsletter.

One of the most readable signs in the photo, "Bend the moral arc towards justice," was designed by and is held up by Sheryl.
