1954: Speaking on South African politics at Bristol Prison
In January 1954, less than 18 months after arriving from Cape Town, Michael was invited to speak at "Her Majesty's Prison" in Bristol by one Richard Blake Brown, the chaplain of the prison. His letter, in a huge and distinctive handwriting, began:
"Dear Michael F.
I am so very glad that you will come to "my" prison on January 17th to talk on the South African problem in the most capable way that you talked to us here so recently..."
1954-01-10: second letter confirming
invitation to speak at the prison (with luncheon
with sherry beforehand!)

Richard Blake Brown appears to have been an accomplished and interesting person, according to his Wikipedia page (which mentions the prison!).
In fact, the prison (Horfield Prison, now known as HM Prison Bristol) has a Wikipedia page, too.
